Back at the turn of the century, my wife and I travelled throughout Muskoka searching for the perfect place to call home. We ended up Landing at Bass Lake!
Over the years, we also discovered some exceptional places to eat in Muskoka and surrounding areas. Some are well-known waterfront destinations, while others are small local restaurants you could easily drive past without ever knowing what you’re missing.
This guide is simply a collection of the restaurants and hidden gems we return to time and time again. If you’re visiting Bass Lake, Lake Joseph, Port Carling, Rosseau, MacTier or the surrounding Muskoka area, these are the places we’d happily recommend to friends and family.
Listed below are some places I recommend you try if you are looking for places to eat in Muskoka, including:
The restaurants featured below are places we’ve personally visited and enjoyed over many years of living and spending time in Muskoka. Our recommendations are based solely on our own experiences and are offered to help others discover places they may also enjoy.

Why We Return
Very close to Bass Lake, this is a place many people overlook, yet it remains one of the nicest restaurants we’ve found in Muskoka. Located on the shores of Lake Joseph, Sherwood Inn offers traditional lakeside surroundings, comfortable accommodation and fine dining. It’s open year-round, although it’s worth checking during the winter months, as the restaurant and bar may occasionally close mid-week.

Why We Return
If you’re looking for a great patio on the water’s edge or a sports bar setup, this is your place. Turtle Jack’s is a favourite stop in Port Carling. You can choose between the lively patio overlooking the water or the sports bar inside. The menu includes everything from wings, burgers, sandwiches and salads, to prime cut steaks, lobster, pasta and bowls
Not open all seasons, so check before you go.
